GIS Coordinator- Dr. Chris Schmeissner- Chris has been the GIS Coordinator for Jefferson
County since 2000 and the IT Director since 2002. Born in Wichita, Kansas, Chris
attended Wichita High School East and continued to Kansas State University finishing
with B.S. and M.S. in Physics. After working for Boeing and Mission Research Corporation
in the defense industry with nuclear weapons effects and infrared aircraft signatures,
Chris returned to school at the University of Kansas and obtained a Ph.D. in geophysics
studying seismology. Working as a researcher at KU, Chris began to incorporate GIS
into his Geophysics research until being hired by Jefferson County.
GIS Project Manager- Kristen Jordan- Kristen grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, and graduated
from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln with bachelor degrees in International
Studies and Political Science. She began GIS at the Nebraska Emergency Management
Agency. In September of 2006, she moved back to Kansas and started as a GIS Technician/Cartographer
for Jefferson County, Kansas, where she now works as the GIS Project Manager.
In addition to the GIS Department, over 15 county employees use GIS software in
their daily workflow. Jefferson County operates ESRI’s enterprise-level ArcSDE based
in SQL2005 and runs online mapping in ArcGIS Server. The Auxiliary Services and
Road and Bridge Department have mobile GIS capabilities with Trimble Juno ST units
and ArcPad.
